Me/We poster
Double-sided foldout poster
I was interested in the proliferation of both individual
and group interests on the internet.
A blog and a wiki are both part of our internet 2.0 culture, yet one could
be seen as self-promoting while the other is to some extent faceless.
Mohammed Ali gave the shortest speech in history at a Harvard Graduation,
in which he just said, "Me. We." Whether this was the result of repeated
blows to the head or a statement about politics or the human
condition, it seemed to ring true within the context of the current
culture of mass communication. I decided to explore these opposing interests
as converse projects under the same title of Me/We.
'Everyone's an Artist'
is a quote by Joseph Buoys. Under this title I responded to a series of briefs
that explored wiki culture and the co–creative process.
'Everyone's an exhibit' was a response to the Joseph Buoys quote that represents
the Me element of the project and in itself is a statement about the changes
in the way in which we present ourselves and the increased methods that we
have to do so. Under this title I posted a series of daily blog posts that
explored the visual language of self–documentation. (At the same time I hoped
to find a way to condense my textual output into the blogosphere).
I chose a poster format as I felt this represented the throw away nature
of blogs, as opposed to a book which has a more precious aesthetic and association.
A poster is also meant to be seen continually in the same way that a blog
is supposed to be returned to. I chose a modular grid with a three column
rule of thirds grid within each module. This was chosen as it drew the least
attention away from the content to represent the content focussed design
of blogs. I chose a rough stock paper to further represent the throw away
nature of a blog.
